Quarrying remains one of the most dangerous industries to work in, since the year 2000, over 3500 workers have suffered an injury reportable to HSE, with 31 of those being fatal.

The Regulations aim to protect those working at a quarry and others who may be affected by quarrying activities, eg those living, passing or working nearby, or visitors to the site.
